An LECC was established in each United States Attorney’s Office in 1981 by order of the United States Attorney General to enhance cooperation among federal, state and local law enforcement. Originally, the work of the LECC was conducted by a standing committee of law enforcement representatives in the district. Because coordination and cooperation among law enforcement is such an integral aspect of the day-to-day operations of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the need for a standing LEC Committee is no longer imperative.

Facilitation of communication is primarily supported through working groups, joint operations and the provision of training. The informal contacts made on these occasions substantially contribute to subsequent problem solving.

The LECC sponsors or co-sponsors low-cost training seminars addressing a variety of topics pertinent to law enforcement officials. Please see link below for upcoming training opportunities.

The LECC also promotes and facilitates the Department of Justice Equitable Sharing of Forfeited Property Program with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and serves as a clearinghouse for inquiries about equitable sharing requests processed through the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
