Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that on June 29, 2010, Tupou Satini Jr., a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 120 months for his conviction of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine.
United States District Court Judge Timothy M. Burgess imposed the sentence on Satini, age 31.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Schmidt, Satini and others, conspired to possess a Federal Express package that contained over 500 grams of methamphetamine. Satini’s co-conspirator, Amy Renee Itta, had the methamphetamine shipped to an unsuspecting individual who became suspicious that the package might contain drugs and reported the activity to law enforcement. Satini was subsequently contacted at Federal Express attempting to obtain the package with Itta and his sister Nanasi Satini. Satini admitted to DEA agents that the package was his. Itta was sentenced in March 2010, to 43 months imprisonment. Nanasi Satini was sentenced in April 2010, to 43 months as well.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Burgess noted the extremely serious nature of the offense, the quantity of the drugs involved, and the need to deter the defendant and others.
Ms. Loeffler commended the Drug Enforcement Administration and Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement Alaska Interdiction Task Force for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Satini.
