former assistant bank manager sentenced to 33 months jail for stealing $300,00 from a bank

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 23, 2011

Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today that a former Assistant Bank Manager in Juneau was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 33 months in prison for her conviction of stealing money from the bank. The Court also ordered her to pay restitution for the total amount stolen.

On November 22, 2011, Antonietta Robinson, 44, of the Philippines, was sentenced by United States District Judge Timothy Burgess.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Aunnie Steward, who prosecuted the case, the following facts provided the basis for Robinson’s guilty plea: From 2002 to 2006, while Robinson was the Assistant Branch Manager for a bank in Juneau, Alaska, she stole $300,000 from the bank. Robinson did so by falsifying paperwork at the bank. Robinson was fired from the bank for an unrelated matter in 2006. The day after she was terminated, Robinson fled to the Philippines before the bank discovered her theft. Robinson was extradited from the Philippines in June 2011.

Judge Burgess commented that Robinson had a “sophisticated plan” to carry out the theft over a long period of time and that Robinson “abused her position of authority and trust” to carry out the theft.

Ms. Loeffler commended the FBI for the investigation that led to the successful prosecution of Robinson.
