MULTIPLE ARRESTS IN METHAMPHETAMINE TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATION
DEA BUSTS AUBURN METH ORGANIZATION
MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA—Leura G. Canary, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, announced today that Judson Marshall Cox, 29, of Montgomery, Alabama; Joshua Timothy Cox, 26, of Montgomery, Alabama; Carey Terrell Orr, 32, of Auburn, Alabama; and Kyle Bailey, 30, of Woodland, Alabama, were arrested early this morning by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration - specifically the Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force. The suspects were arrested pursuant to a 20 count federal indictment charging conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of methamphetamine and use of a communication facility to facilitate distribution of methamphetamine.
According to the Indictment, from August 2004 until October 2005, Judson and Joshua Cox, Orr, Baily, and others participated in a conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine in the Lee County, Alabama, area. In addition to conspiracy, the Indictment also charges Joshua Cox, Orr, and Bailey with specific acts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Finally, the Indictment charges Judson Cox with 11 counts of using a communication facility to facilitate an attempt to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
For the conspiracy charge alone, all the defendants face a potential sentence of at least 10 years imprisonment, up to a $4 million fine, and 5 years of supervised release. Other charges carry sentences ranging from 4 years imprisonment to life.
This case was investigated by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, the Millbrook Police Department, and the Auburn Police Department. This case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Verne H. Speirs.
Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
