FELON CONVICTED OF FEDERAL GUN VIOLATION
MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA— Leura G. Canary, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, announced that on April 25, 2007, Eddie Andrew Gordon, age 40, of Montgomery, was convicted by a federal jury for possessing a firearm after having been previously convicted of a felony, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1).
The case was initiated when a complainant called the Montgomery Police Department to assist her in locating stolen property believed to be at the Coliseum Inn on Federal Drive. The responding officer found Eddie Andrew Gordon in possession of controlled substances and a firearm. Gordon had been previously convicted of Sodomy First Degree, Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle, and Robbery Third Degree, all in the Circuit Court of Barbour County, Alabama. The jury deliberated approximately four hours before finding Gordon guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Gordon testified on his own behalf.
Based upon this conviction, Gordon faces a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment, a fine of not more than $250,000.00, and a special assessment fee of $100.00. Upon release from imprisonment, Gordon will be subject to an additional three years of supervised release. Gordon is not eligible for probation, and parole is abolished in the federal system. The sentencing will be set at a later date before the Honorable William K. Watkins, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Alabama.
This case was investigated by Gwendolyn Spence, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan R. Redmond.
