MONTGOMERY MAN SENTENCED TO 30 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ATTEMPTED ARMED BANK ROBBERY

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA— Leura G. Canary, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, announced today that Courtney Deon Orum, age 20, of Montgomery, Alabama, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for aiding and abetting another in the attempted armed bank robbery of Mutual Savings Credit Union, located in Alexander City, Alabama.

Orum previously pled guilty to aiding and abetting Keith James Sexton, on May 7, 2007, in the attempt to rob Mutual Savings Credit Union, a federally-insured credit union, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 2113(a) and (d), and Title 18, United States Code, Section 2. Due to Orum’s assistance in the bank robbery attempt, Chief United States District Judge Mark E. Fuller sentenced Orum to a term of imprisonment of 30 months to be followed by 5 years supervised release. His co-defendant, Keith James Sexton, is scheduled for trial in January, 2008.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Alexander City Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jerusha T. Adams.
