Cottondale man sentence to 25 years in prison on child porn charges
U.S. District Judge Scott Coogler today sentenced a Cottondale man to 25 years in prison for receiving and possessing child pornography.
BIRMINGHAM, AL - United States Attorney Joyce White Vance of the Northern District of Alabama and Mike Holt, Special Agent in Charge, Immigration & Customs Enforcement announced today that Samuel Jay Turner, 46, pleaded guilty in May to one count of receiving and one count of possessing child pornography. Coogler ordered that Turner’s sentences on each count run consecutively, resulting in the 25-year sentence. The judge also required that Turner be on supervised release for life following his prison term, that he have no unsupervised contact with children and that he register as a sex offender.
According to Turner’s May plea agreement with the government, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents recovered more than 600 images of child pornography on Turner’s computer when they executed a search warrant at his Hargrove Road East home on Feb. 19.
The images depicted real children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, the plea agreement said.
