MONTEVALLO WOMAN SENTENCED IN FEDERAL COURT FOR COMMITTING SECURITIES AND CREDIT CARD FRAUD
BIRMINGHAM, AL - A federal judge Thursday sentenced ALTRICIA MARIE MCCURDY, 31, of Montevallo, AL, for committing Securities and Credit Card Fraud, announced United States Attorney Joyce White Vance and U.S. Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Roy Sexton.
According to Vance, between January 2006 and November 2006, while working at Shelby Emergency Assistance, Inc., MCCURDY stole and endorsed company checks, paying for personal items, such as home mortgage premiums, vehicle loans and Alabama Power Company payments for herself and others. She also used a company credit card from January 10, 2006, to May, 22, 2006, to charge personal items at Home Depot, Wal-mart and other stores.
MCCURDY was sentenced by United States District Judge R. David Proctor to five years probation. As special conditions of probation she was ordered to serve eight months home detention and ordered to pay $32, 012.86 in restitution to Shelby Emergency Assistance, Inc., and its insurance carrier. She was convicted on these charges April 20, 2009, by pleading guilty to an eight-count indictment.
“White collar crime generally produces a paper trail which always results in the discovery of the fraud and the wrong-doer,” Vance said.
The U.S. Secret Service investigated the case which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank M. Salter.
