TUSCALOOSA MAN INDICTED FOR COUNTERFEITING U.S. CURRENCY
BIRMINGHAM, AL - United States Attorney Joyce White Vance and U.S. Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Roy Sexton announced today that a federal grand jury has indicted TRAVIS LEON JACKSON for four violations of counterfeiting laws.
JACKSON, 27, of Tuscaloosa, was charged in an indictment filed today at U. S. District Court in Birmingham. The indictment charges that, in July and August 2009, Jackson manufactured, sold, possessed and concealed counterfeit U.S. currency. The total face value of the counterfeit currency involved in this case exceeded $10,000.
Upon conviction, Jackson faces a maximum sentence of 20 years incarceration and a fine of $250,000 for each of the four charges.
This case was investigated by Special Agents Darren Barnes and Stephen Lewis of the United States Secret Service. Assistant United States Attorney Melissa K. Atwood is prosecuting this case.
Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges, and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
