HUEYTOWN WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO_INVOLVEMENT IN COCAINE TRAFFICKING

 

                       BIRMINGHAM, AL - Alice H. Martin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, and Gregory Borland, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, announce that LARDREA SHARNELL CAMPBELL, 29, of  Hueytown, Alabama, has pled guilty to one count of using a telephone to facilitate cocaine trafficking.  CAMPBELL was indicted on this charge by a federal grand jury in June 2008.

          According to U.S. Attorney Alice Martin, “This plea validates the hard work of agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and other law enforcement officers and prosecutors, whose diligence and determination  insured that this defendant was brought to justice.”

          CAMPBELL faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison for her role in the offense.  Sentencing is expected to be set for June 2009 before United States District Judge C. Lynwood Smith.

          This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United States Secret Service, the Internal Revenue Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Birmingham Police Department, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, and other contributing state and local agencies working in coordination with the DEA High Intensity Drug Trafficking Activity Task Force.

          Assistant United States Attorney Gregory R. Dimler prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
