MADISON COUNTY MAN INDICTED FOR MAIL THEFT
BIRMINGHAM, AL - JAMES NALL, 27, of Hazel Green, Alabama, was charged in a seven-count indictment filed today at U.S. District Court in Birmingham. U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin and Martin Phanco, Postal Inspector/Domicile Coordinator, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, announce today that NALL has been indicted by a federal grand jury for mail theft.
The indictment charges that, between July 2008 and November 12, 2008, NALL, a postal service contract employee, stole mail from a post office in Morgan County, Alabama. If convicted, NALL faces a maximum sentence of 5 years in federal prison and a $250,000.00 fine for each count.
“Postal service contract employees are entrusted with ensuring the integrity of our postal system. Employees who abuse this trust will be prosecuted by this office,” stated United States Attorney Alice H. Martin.
This case was investigated by Inspectors with the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant United States Attorney Alison S. Austin is prosecuting this case on behalf of the United States.
Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
