CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIER INDICTED
FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
BIRMINGHAM, AL - KENNETH LEE DEWEY, 34, of Oceanside, California, has been indicted by a federal grand jury today in Birmingham. United States Attorney Alice H. Martin of the Northern District of Alabama and Special Agent in Charge Thomas J. Cook, United States Army Criminal Investigation Division, Redstone Arsenal, announce the one-count indictment of DEWEY for Possession of Child Pornography.
Count One of the indictment charges that on April 30, 2008, DEWEY possessed material which contained images of child pornography. The maximum sentence for possession of child pornography is ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
“Children deserve to be protected and defended and we prosecute any person that threatens that right,” stated U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin.
Special Agents of the Army CID investigated this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Mary Stuart Burrell is prosecuting this case on behalf of the United States.
Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
