CALERA MAN INDICTED FOR BANK ROBBERY

BIRMINGHAM - A federal grand jury today indicted VERNON LACY “JACK” RILEY, JR., for the June 9 robbery of Bryant Bank on Highway 280 in Shelby County, United States Attorney Joyce White Vance and Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis announced.

Riley, 67, of Calera, was charged in a one-count indictment filed in U. S. District Court. If convicted, Riley faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

“Bank robberies affect all of the citizens in the Northern District and receive high priority in this office,” Vance said. “It is imperative that we do our best to protect banks and other public institutions that people must rely on,” she said.

The case was investigated by Hoover Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William G. Simpson.
