Sex Offender Educational Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 18, 2011

The Alabama State Probation & Parole Office and the U.S. Probation Office are joining together on Halloween night, Oct. 31, to provide education on state and federal sex offender laws to felony sex offenders currently under supervision of the State Probation & Parole Office and the U.S. Probation Office in Huntsville. This year, the State of Alabama enacted the Alabama Sex Offender Registration & Community Notification Act which mirrors federal law (Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act). We will also provide training on employment and other community support topics.

The mandatory educational program will take place at an undisclosed location between 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Halloween. Felony sex offenders under supervision of both of the above offices are required to attend.

This operation is a pro-active venture to provide education and training to sex offenders, improve accountability and behavior change, as well as safeguard the community, in that these offenders will not be participating in Halloween activities.

Questions regarding this operation may be directed to the State Probation & Parole Office in Huntsville (256-288-0420) and the U.S. Probation Office (256-551-2500).
