MOBILE WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SUBMITTING FALSE TAX RETURNS

June 1, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stacy Levette Parker plead guilty to 2 counts of submitting fraudulent tax returns and making false claims against the Government. From 2005 through 2007, Parker prepared and filed approximately 36 fraudulent tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service. Those tax returns involved the theft of the identity of others. Today she plead to one count of submitting fraudulent tax returns and identity theft in the filing of a return of Lemarcus Bonner. Parker admitted that she submitted to the government a return in his name, using his social security number. The return was either transmitted to the Internal Revenue service by wire or using the United States Mail. As a result of that return a tax refund was generated and then deposited into a bank account that Parker had access to or controlled. The tax return filed listed Bonner’s employment as with Diamond Janitorial. While Bonner was employed in 2005, he never worked for Diamond Janitorial. He did not even file a return for that tax year. He did not know the dependants that were listed on the return. He did not received the refunds which was in the amount of $7,717.00. The refund was used by Parker for her personal use.

The maximum penalty for a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 287- Submitting False Claims Against the Government is up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000. And the maximum penalty for a violation of 18 U.S.C. 1028(a)(7) is up to 15 years and a fine and a term of supervised release.

The case was investigated by SA Quantina Jordan of the Internal Revenue Service. The case was prosecuted by AUSA Vicki Davis.

Sentencing is set for September 29, 2009. At the time of sentencing the court will determine the amount of restitution that Parker will be ordered to pay.
