A Mobile man has been sentenced on bank robbery and firearm charges, Acting United States Attorney Eugene A. Seidel of the Southern District of Alabama announced today.
On Monday, Julius Womack, 29, was sentenced by District Judge William H. Steele to serve a total of 216 months in the federal Bureau of Prisons. Womack was convicted by a jury on March 9, 2009 for his part in the November 26, 2008 armed robbery of the RBC Centura Bank branch located on St. Stephens Road in Mobile. According to testimony at trial, Womack and his cousin, Donald Womack planned to rob the bank, and obtained a pistol for Donald to carry into the bank during the robbery. Police captured the two men within a few minutes of the robbery. The sentence included a statutory mandatory 120 months on the firearm charge to be served consecutive to the 96 months Womack received for the bank robbery.
The indictment and conviction resulted from the investigation conducted by the Mobile Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys John Cherry and Michele O’Brien.
