There are a lot of things to do in life that beat joining a gang.  Reach out and get involved in your community, in your culture, in the arts, in music and dance, in sports.  These activities are healthy for the body and the mind, and will surround you with people engaged in healthy behavior.family playing baseball outside

Making the right choices in life starts in the home.  A good future starts with a strong family or strong adult influences that can provide direction and protection for a young person.  That adult may be a father, a mother, a grandparent , an aunt or uncle.  But it could also be a teacher, a coach, a pastor, or anyone else who cares and can be a positive influence in your life     Mother holding daughter

So gangs are a big problem.  What can you do about it?  Make the right choice.  Whoever you are, young or old, if you are a student or a parent, look inside yourself and make the right choice.

And then reach out to someone.  Be that positive influence on someone else.  Be a leader, a mentor for others.  A teacher, a police officer, a social worker.  Do something positive that will strengthen the bonds that tie your community together!
