ARMED ROBBER OF THE TOBACCO BARN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON
TUCSON, Ariz. – On November 27, 2012, Dillon J. Pittman, 24, of Tucson, Ariz., was sentenced by visiting U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland to five years in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Pittman’s federal sentence will run consecutively to a five year state prison sentence. Pittman pleaded guilty on July 30, 2012, to attempted armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.
According to court documents, on March 31, 2011, Pittman entered the Tobacco Barn, on the Tohono O’odham Nation, while wielding a large knife. Pittman took one employee hostage and then demanded money from the principal owner. The owner and employees of the store subdued Pittman and detained him until police arrived.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Tohono O’odham Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Tucson Office. The prosecution was conducted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Micah Schmit, District of Arizona, Tucson.
