Los Angeles, CA - A Santa Ana Jail detention officer was indicted today on federal bribery charges for allegedly accepting $6,000 in bribe money in exchange for bringing unlawful contraband to a federal inmate housed in the Santa Ana City Jail. Jose Abel Flores, 37, of Corona, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Santa Ana on two counts of bribery. According to the indictment, Flores accepted two $3,000 bribes in exchange for bringing cellular telephones to a federal inmate being held in the Santa Ana City Jail. Flores was arrested on October 17 at work at the Santa Ana City Jail. Flores is currently in custody in lieu of a $100,000 bond. Flores is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on November 6, 2006. If convicted of the two bribery counts, Flores faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison. An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
