Reporting a Crime


Contact information for common types of criminal complaints and referrals is as follows:

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigates a wide variety of federal crimes as well as reports of activity relating to terrorism. To report a crime, or any activity relating to terrorism, you can contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation by submitting an online complaint form available at http://www.fbi.gov/contactus.htm or calling the toll-free number 1-800-CALLFBI (225-5324).

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigates violations of federal laws pertaining to firearms, arson, and explosives. To report a crime you can contact the Los Angeles Field Division at (818) 265-2500, or by email at LosAngelesDiv@atf.gov.

The Drug Enforcement Administration investigates violations of federal narcotics laws. To report a crime you can contact the Los Angeles Division at (213) 621-6700.

If you suspect or know of an individual or company that is not complying with thetax laws, you may report it by completing an online form available at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f3949a.pdf. More information on reporting violations of the tax laws is available on the Internal Revenue Service’s web page at http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=106778,00.html.

To report potential mail fraud or identity theft, you can contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service by submitting an online form available at http://www.postalinspectors.uspis.gov or calling the toll-free number 877-876-2455.

To report potential Medicare or Medi-Cal fraud, you can contact the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General by submitting an online form available at http://oig.hhs.gov/fraud/hotline or calling the toll-free number 1-800-HHS-TIPS
(1-800-447-8477).

To report potential securities law violations, you can contact the Securities and Exchange Commission by submitting an online form available at http://www.sec.gov/complaint.shtml.

To report suspicious activities or transactions involving commodity trading, you can contact the Commodity Futures Trading Commission by submitting an online form available at CFTC.gov or calling the toll-free number 866-FON-CFTC (866-366-2382).

To report potential consumer fraud, you can contact the Federal Trade Commission by submitting an online form available at http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/contact.shtm or calling the toll-free number 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).
