Docket #: 2:09-CR-308-JAM |
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that Chanel Ann Blue, 46, of Hayward, was sentenced today by United States District Judge John A. Mendez to three and a half years in prison for bank fraud, access device fraud (also known as credit card fraud), aggravated identity theft, and identity theft.
Blue pleaded guilty on September 14, 2010, admitting to using the personal information of an identified victim to rent an apartment in Sacramento, apply for at least two vehicle loans, open a credit union account, and obtain a credit card. The total loss associated with Blue’s criminal conduct charged in the indictment exceeds $40,000.
Judge Mendez ordered the defendant to make restitution to the banks and credit unions who suffered losses as a result of her offenses. The judge also ordered Blue to pay $1,500 in restitution to the identified victim for the time and costs associated with the victim’s efforts to clean up her credit history.
This case is the product of an extensive investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and various local law enforcement agencies throughout San Joaquin and Alameda Counties. Assistant United States Attorney Camil Skipper prosecuted the case.
