SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that Tracy Bittner, 58, of Redding, pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery today before United States District Judge Morrison C. England, Jr.

According to court documents, Bittner robbed the Bank of the West in Woodland on September 22, 2010, using an air pellet gun.  He fled with approximately $5,880, but police officers apprehended him less than 30 minutes later.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Woodland Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Dominique N. Thomas is prosecuting the case.

Bittner remains in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 21, 2011 at 9 a.m.  The maximum statutory penalty for the offense is 25 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and a five-year period of supervised release.  The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
