FRESNO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that Maria Ines Rangel-Lemus, 55, of Strathmore, was sentenced today to 21 months in prison for conspiracy to possess, transfer, produce and sell fraudulent U.S. immigration and social security identification documents. Rangel-Lemus pleaded guilty on November 15, 2010.
According to court documents, Rangel-Lemus and co-defendant Cesar Perez Sanchez, conspired to possess, transfer, produce and sell fraudulent immigration. Prospective purchasers would meet Rangel-Lemus and request that social security cards and lawful permanent resident cards be made with their picture and biographical information. Sanchez would acquire the picture and biographical information, return to his residence to produce the documents, and then provide Rangel-Lemus with the fraudulent documents.
This case is the product of an extensive investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant United States Attorneys Susan Phan and Ian Garriques prosecuted the case.
