Valley Springs Woman Sentenced for Tax Evasion

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that Deborah Murillo, 56, of Valley Springs, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Garland E. Burrell, Jr., to nine months in prison to be followed by nine months of home detention with electronic monitoring.

According to court documents, Murillo pleaded guilty on October 15, 2010, to a single count of tax evasion covering 11 years (1994 through 2004). Prior to her sentencing, Murillo paid $228,231 in restitution to the IRS.

This case is the product of an extensive investigation by the United States Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Samantha S. Spangler prosecuted the case.
