Colorado Guns Used in Crimes on the Streets of Bay Area
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and Special Agent in Charge Stephen C. Herkins with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced that Travis Price, 36, of Solano County, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Morrison C. England, Jr. to five years and three months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for unlawfully selling firearms and for being a convicted felon in possession of firearms.
U.S. Attorney Wagner said: “Those who illegally traffic in firearms facilitate violent criminal activity. Their actions are, and will continue to be, a focus of enforcement efforts by this office.”
“The individuals who illegally buy and sell firearms across state lines to arm dangerous gangsters are just as responsible for the violent crimes committed by the criminals who pull the triggers on these ill-gotten weapons,” stated Special Agent in Charge Stephen C. Herkins.
According to court documents, from June 2008 to December 2008 Price conspired with straw purchasers to buy firearms from four different federal firearms dealers in Colorado and shipped the firearms via the United States Parcel Service and Fed-X to an unwitting associate in Fairfield, Calif. To date, at least 15 of the firearms have been recovered in criminal investigations throughout the Bay Area. One of the firearms was used in a gang shooting in Vallejo, some were possessed by convicted felons in Vallejo and San Francisco, and one was used in what is believed to be a suicide in Ukiah.
This case is the product of an investigation by the ATF in Colorado, the Vallejo Police Department, and Fairfield Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Todd Leras prosecuted the case.
