FRESNO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that Anastacio Paredes-Rosas, 31, of Puebla, Mexico, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Anthony W. Ishii to 21 months in prison for producing fraudulent U.S. identification documents and improper entry by an alien into the United States. Paredes-Rosas pleaded guilty to the charges on February 14, 2011.

According to the plea agreement, between May and October 2010, Paredes-Rosas met customers at various locations in Madera County to arrange the sale of fraudulent immigration and social security documents, charging approximately $80 per set. Paredes-Rosas, also known to his customers as “Joel,” is a Mexican citizen and had eluded examination and inspection by immigration officers until his arrest on October 6, 2010.

This case was the product of an extensive investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Ian L. Garriques prosecuted the case.
