FRESNO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that a federal grand jury returned an indictment today charging Satinderpal Singh Biling, 21, of Vancouver, Canada , with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.
According to court documents, Biling was in possession of more than 80 kilograms of cocaine intended for distribution.
This case is the product of a joint investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Merced Multi-Agency Narcotics Task Force, and the California Highway Patrol. Assistant United States Attorney Yasin Mohammad is prosecuting the case.
If convicted of the drug charges, Biling faces a mandatory minimum prison term of 10 years and a maximum term of life imprisonment, along with a $10 million fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
The charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
