SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones announced today the issuance of a sizable U.S. Department of Justice grant to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC).
The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention agency awarded $340,511 to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office to support the salary and benefits of two full-time detectives dedicated to investigating ICAC-related offenses.
Sheriff Jones stated: “In this new reality of diminishing public safety budgets, collaborative efforts such as the formation of this task force are becoming increasingly important in order to protect the public.”
The ICAC Task Force was developed in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the Internet, the corresponding heightened activity of sex predators seeking unlawful sexual contact with minors via the Internet, as well as the proliferation of the Internet trafficking of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. The task force joins together federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to provide effective and sustainable responses to online child victimization and child pornography.
