FRESNO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that Lee Xiong, 47, of Banning, and Khay Xiong, 31, of Fresno, pleaded guilty today to one count each of conspiracy to obstruct correspondence, possessing counterfeit postal keys and possessing stolen mail. Kor Lee, 38, of Fresno, pleaded guilty today to one count of possession of stolen mail.
According to court documents, between January and February 2011 Lee Xiong and Khay Xiong took part in a conspiracy to steal mail from community mail boxes using homemade counterfeit postal keys. Kor Lee admitted to possessing mail that was stolen from community mail boxes between December 2010 and January 2011.
This case is the product of an investigation by the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant United States Attorney Henry Z. Carbajal III prosecuted the case.
The defendants are scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge Lawrence J. O'Neill on December 2, 2011. They face a maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison for each count. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
