Docket #: 1:10-cr-064-LJO

FRESNO, Calif.— United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that today United States District Judge Lawrence J. O'Neill sentenced Bulmaro, aka Bollas, Chavez, 35, of Fresno to 10 years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release for possessing 25 pounds of crystal methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Police Departments of Madera and Fresno and the Fresno Methamphetamine Task Force (FMTF). The FMTF is a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Initiative (HIDTA), consisting of law enforcement agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the California Department of Justice's Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, the California Highway Patrol, and the Sheriff's Departments of Fresno, Madera, and Merced Counties. Assistant United States Attorney Karen Escobar prosecuted the case.

According to court documents, Chavez was arrested on January 22, 2010 after he negotiated for the sale of methamphetamine and was found in possession of 23 pounds of crystal methamphetamine in a hidden compartment in his pickup truck. Agents searched a residence in northwest Fresno where they had seen Chavez go after the negotiations and found two more pounds of crystal methamphetamine and several items used to convert methamphetamine into crystal methamphetamine that bore Chavez's fingerprints.
