SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that Keshon Murry, 22, of Sacramento, pleaded guilty today to possession of a firearm after a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Safe Streets Task Force and the California Highway Patrol. Assistant United States Attorney Jill Thomas is prosecuting the case.

According to the plea agreement, on December 31, 2010, CHP officers saw Murry driving his car approximately 60 mph in a 25 mph zone. After a high speed chase in which Murry crashed his car into a parked car, officers discovered a Smith & Wesson 38-caliber handgun with five rounds in the cylinder.

Murry is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Morrison C. England Jr. on January 5, 2012. The maximum statutory penalty for each violation is 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
