FRESNO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that Daniel Vasquez-Miranda, 27, and Zoila Vazquez-Vazquez, 21, both of Mexico, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to produce and transfer fraudulent immigration and social security identification documents.
According to the plea agreements, between May and July 2011, the defendants would meet individuals at locations in Madera County and take pictures and biographical information from them. Using the photos and biographical information, the defendants then manufactured false identification documents, such as social security cards and lawful permanent resident cards. The defendants and the participants would then meet up again to exchange the false identification documents and to complete the sale.
This case is the product of an extensive investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant United States Attorney Ian Garriques is prosecuting the case.
The defendants are scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill on February 6, 2012. The maximum statutory penalty each defendant faces is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
