SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that Roberto Solis-Cabralles, of Mexico, was convicted today of two counts of illegal reentry by a federal jury in Sacramento after a two-day trial.
According to testimony presented at trial, Solis-Cabralles was deported on five prior occasions, and he repeatedly returned to the United States illegally. He has prior felony convictions in Sacramento that include a drug trafficking offense and conviction for grand theft after robbing a liquor store with a knife.
This case is the product of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant United States Attorneys Michele Beckwith and Russell L. Carlberg prosecuted the case.
Solis-Cabralles is scheduled to be sentenced on April 9, 2012 by United States District Judge William S. Shubb. He faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
