FRESNO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that Isidro Fredis Hernandez, 39, of El Salvador, pleaded guilty today to conspiring to produce and transfer fraudulent immigration and social security identification documents.
According to his plea agreement, between June and September 2011, Hernandez took pictures and biographical information from customers in Fresno and using the photos and information, he would have another individual produce false identification documents, such as social security cards and lawful permanent resident cards. Hernandez brought the customers the false documents and completed the sale.
This case is the product of an extensive investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant United States Attorney Ian Garriques is prosecuting the case.
Hernandez is scheduled to be sentenced on May 7, 2012 by United States District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill. The maximum statutory penalty he faces is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
