SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that Kristina Michelle Morris, 38, of Bieber, pleaded guilty today to embezzling money from the Bieber Post Office in Lassen County.
According to court documents, between October 1, 2010 and May 11, 2011, Morris stole approximately $23,554 from the City of Bieber Post Office while employed as the postmaster. She took small amounts from the post office's cash and she issued postal money orders for amounts greater than what she actually paid for them and used them to pay for her personal expenses.
This case is the product of an investigation by the United States Postal Service's Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Rodriguez is prosecuting the case.
Morris is scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller on May 14, 2012. She faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and restitution. Morris was allowed to remain out of custody on a $10,000 bond pending sentencing.
