            SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that Brent Boulter, 26, of Burnaby, British Colombia, Canada, was sentenced today to 11 years and three months in prison by United States District Judge Edward J. Garcia for his role in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine.

            According to court documents, the investigation in this case began in July, 2008, when DEA agents seized approximately 200,000 BZP pills (a controlled substance similar to MDMA) in Redding. The DEA made subsequent arrests and seizures in South San Francisco. These seizures and arrests helped the DEA identify a Canadian-based narco-transportation operation.

            Brent Boulter was a courier for the Canadian operation. The operation functioned like a black market DHL or UPS. Its members did not buy or sell narcotics; rather, they simply shipped drugs (and money) from one place to another. They made money by providing reliable and timely transportation of valuable cargo.

            On February 1, 2010, detectives in San Bernardino seized a 66-pound, Canadian-bound shipment of methamphetamine and more than $126,000 in cash at a hotel in Rancho Cucamonga. The cash was awaiting the arrival of six kilograms of cocaine. After the cash was traded for the cocaine, Brent Boulter was to take the cocaine to Canada, along with the 66 pounds of methamphetamine.

            U.S. and Canadian citizens were using Boulter and his confederates to move narcotics from California to Canada where the drugs could be sold at a premium. The seizures and arrests made on February 1, 2010, were just one piece of a long-term, multidistrict investigation led by the DEA in the Eastern District of California.

            This case was the product of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Fremont Police Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, and the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Michael M. Beckwith prosecuted the case.
