Docket #: 2:10-cr-391-JAM

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that Hector Salazar-Borrayo, 44, of Gilroy, pleaded guilty today to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, on August 19, 2010, investigators searched a house in Gilroy where they found over 610 pounds of crystal methamphetamine. The methamphetamine was spread throughout nearly every room in the house.

Salazar-Borrayo was found in one of the four bedrooms of the house. With him, officers found a number of items including: various documents related to Salazar-Borrayo, more than $25,000 in cash, a firearm (on the bed next to the pillow), three cell phones, more than four pounds of blue crystal methamphetamine, and more than a half a pound of white crystal methamphetamine. Other ledgers were found throughout the house. In all, the ledgers detailed the distribution of more than 3,300 pounds of methamphetamine in less than a five-month period.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, and the California Department of Justice (Cal-MMET). Assistant United States Attorney Michael M. Beckwith is prosecuting the case.

Salazar-Borrayo is scheduled to be sentenced on August 7, 2012 by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez. Salazar-Borrayo faces a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison, a $10 million fine, and a five-year-to-life term of supervised release. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory sentencing factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.

Roberto Bermudez-Ornelas and Martin Solorio, both of Sacramento, and Sergio Murillo-Valencia, 37, and Fabian Figueroa-Ayala, 29, both of Gilroy, previously pleaded guilty in this case. Bermudez-Ornelas and Solorio are scheduled to be sentenced on May 22, 2012. Murillo-Valencia and Figueroa-Ayala and are scheduled to be sentenced on June 12, 2012. Charges are pending against the remaining four defendants. The charges are only allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
