FRESNO, Calif. — Douangchanh Keovilayvanh, 41, of Sanger, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill to five years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release, for possessing a firearm in furtherance of marijuana trafficking at his residence on a 54-acre agricultural parcel in Sanger, U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

According to court documents, on November 10, 2010, when drug agents raided the 54 acre parcel, Keovilayvanh possessed one .22-caliber GSG/5 rifle and 10 rounds of .22-caliber Winchester long rifle ammunition, along with 60 pounds of processed marijuana, inside his residence at California and Indianola in Sanger.  Drug agents also found approximately 4,620 marijuana plants growing outside in the adjacent field on the same parcel, along with approximately 2,445 plants being processed.

The agricultural parcel where Keovilayvanh resided is the subject of separate federal civil forfeiture proceedings. He also faces deportation.

The case was the product of an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) office in Fresno and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Karen A. Escobar prosecuted the criminal case and Assistant United States Attorney Kevin Khasigian and Alyson Berg are handling the forfeiture of the Sanger property.
