FRESNO, Calif. — Oscar Arellano Iniego, 54, of Bakersfield, pleaded guilty today to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine, distributing crystal methamphetamine and possessing with intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

According to court documents, from March 1, 2011 until May 25, 2011, Arellano Iniego conspired with Sergio Hector Aguilar, 45, of Bakersfield, in supplying crystal methamphetamine to an undercover operative in Bakersfield.

Arellano Iniego is scheduled to be sentenced on October 15, 2012 by United States District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill. He faces a mandatory minimum prison term of 10 years and a maximum term of life, and a $10 million fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory sentencing factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.

Co-defendant Aguilar was also charged with the drug conspiracy and is scheduled to appear in federal court on August 20, 2012. As to Aguilar, the charges are only allegations and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bakersfield Police Department, and Kern County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen A. Escobar is prosecuting the case.
