FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Docket #: 2:08-cr-87- AWI

FRESNO, Calif. — Theresa Martinez-Martinez, 48, of Mexico, was sentenced on Tuesday by United States District Judge Anthony W. Ishii to 22 years in prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

According to court documents, on March 5, 2010, a jury convicted Martinez-Martinez. While awaiting sentencing, she was inadvertently released to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and deported to Mexico. In early 2012, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Apprehension Team learned that Martinez-Martinez had illegally reentered the United States and was living in the Fresno area. She was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on June 7.

In sentencing Martinez-Martinez, Judge Ishii rejected her claim that she was working as a police informant at the time she attempted to sell four pounds of methamphetamine to a confidential informant.

This case was the product of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Fresno Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Elana S. Landau and Kimberly A. Sanchez prosecuted the case.
