Modesto Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Methamphetamine Distribution

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jose Olivera Zapien, 53, of Modesto, was sentenced Monday by United States District Judge William B. Shubb to ten years and one month in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.
According to court documents, in June 2009, undercover agents purchased 55 grams of methamphetamine from Zapien and an additional 452.6 grams of marijuana. On July 14, 2009, after arranging to buy one pound purchase of methamphetamine from Zapien, agents searched his home. During the execution of the search warrant, agents recovered approximately one pound of methamphetamine.
This case is the product of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the former California Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement’s Mountain and Valley Marijuana Investigations Team. Assistant United States Attorneys Richard Bender and Olusere Olowoyeye are prosecuting the case.
