FORMER UNION TREASURER SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON, HOME CONFINEMENT FOR EMBEZZLEMENT Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that ANDREW KONSPORE, age 34, of 22 Summer Lane, North Haven, Connecticut, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet C. Hall in Bridgeport to five months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for embezzling union funds. Judge Hall also ordered KONSPORE to serve the first five months of his supervised release confined to his home. On September 28, 2006, KONSPORE pleaded guilty to the offense. According to documents filed with Court and statements made in court, from 2001 through 2001, KONSPORE served as the treasurer of Northeast Emergency Services Union (“NEESU”), an independent local union representing approximately 400 employees of American Medical Response of New Haven and Greater New Haven Transit Company. KONSPORE admitted that he embezzled union funds by, among other methods, issuing undocumented union check disbursements to third parties, making out union checks payable to cash, and making cash withdrawals from union checking and savings accounts. Today, Judge Hall ordered KONSPORE to pay restitution of approximately $91,000 to the Union. “Union officers who betray the trust of their constituents by embezzling union funds should expect to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” U.S. Attorney O’Connor stated. This case was investigated by the Office of Labor Management Standards. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony E. Kaplan. | |
