MERIDEN MAN INVOLVED IN CRACK DISTRIBUTION RING SENTENCED TO 68 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that LUIS VAZQUEZ, 28, of Meriden, was sentenced yesterday, April 22, by United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven to 68 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute, and to distribute, five grams or more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”).  VAZQUEZ pleaded guilty to the charge on December 3, 2007.

On October 4, 2006, a federal grand jury returned an Indictment charging VAZQUEZ and several other individuals with various narcotics offenses involving the distribution of cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin in central Connecticut.  During the course of the 10-month investigation that began in late 2005 and led to the Indictment, VAZQUEZ was intercepted over a court-authorized wiretap ordering distribution quantities of crack cocaine from a co-defendant.

This investigation was a collaborative effort of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Meriden Police Department.  This matter is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Robert M. Spector and S. Dave Vatti.
