Project Safe Neighborhoods: BRIDGEPORT MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL COCAINE AND CRACK DISTRIBUTION CHARGES Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that MORRIS MOORE, also known as “Mo,” 36, of Barnum Avenue, Bridgeport, pleaded guilty today before United States Magistrate Judge Holly B. Fitzsimmons in Bridgeport to one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”) and one count of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of powder cocaine. According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on October 24, 2007, MOORE possessed between 50 and 150 grams crack cocaine and between 500 grams and two kilograms of powder cocaine, which he intended to distribute. MOORE is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall on July 14, 2008, at which time MOORE faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a maximum term of imprisonment of life. MOORE faced enhanced penalties based on his criminal history, which includes five felony convictions related to the possession and/or distribution of drugs. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Felice Duffy as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative. The Project Safe Neighborhood Initiative is aimed at reducing gun violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents in Connecticut’s cities. Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. | |
