Project Safe Neighborhoods: WOLCOTT MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ILLEGAL GUN SALES Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that SEAN BLALOCK, 23, of Wolcott, was sentenced on Friday, May 2, by United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to 13 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for willfully engaging in the business of dealing in firearms without a license. BLALOCK pleaded guilty to the charge on January 22, 2008. The charge against BLALOCK stems from a long-term investigation by federal and local law enforcement into the Latin Kings organization in the Waterbury area. The investigation, which lasted more than six months, included the controlled purchases of firearms and illegal narcotics from more than 50 suspected members of the Latin Kings. Eighteen individuals, including BLALOCK, were arrested and charged with various federal drug trafficking and weapons violations. According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in Court, on both July 25, 2007 and September 5, 2007, BLALOCK conducted an illegal sale of a .25 caliber pistol. Acting U.S. Attorney Dannehy commended the law enforcement agents and officers who conducted the investigation and praised their devoted efforts to identify, disrupt and dismantle gang activity in Waterbury. This matter was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Waterbury Police Department. These cases are being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Robert M. Spector, Edward R. Kang and S. Dave Vatti. The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative is aimed at reducing gun violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents of Connecticut’s cities. Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. | |
