MAN WHO FAILED TO REPORT TO HARTFORD HALFWAY HOUSE IS SENTENCED

Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DANNY HUGGLER, 51, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Alfred V. Covello in Hartford to 15 months of imprisonment for escaping from federal custody.  HUGGLER pleaded guilty to the offense on May 29, 2009.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on November 18, 2005, HUGGLER was sentenced in the District of Maine to 63 months of imprisonment following his conviction for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  On September 2, 2008, with approximately one month to serve on his sentence, HUGGLER was transferred via a furlough from a federal prison in Massachusetts to Cheney House Residential Reentry Center in Hartford.  However, HUGGLER never reported to the halfway house.

On March 24, 2009, the Farmington Police Department arrested HUGGLER following a motor vehicle stop and subsequently turned him over to the United States Marshals Service.

HUGGLER has been detained since his arrest.

This matter was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Gustafson.
