FORMER PHARMACY TECHNICIAN PLEADS TO POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that VICKI DIBENE, 29, pleaded guilty today before Senior United States District Judge Alfred V. Covello in Hartford to one count of possessing Vicodin ES, a Schedule III controlled substance, with intent to distribute. According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, DIBENE was employed as a Pharmacy Technician, Inventory Specialist, at the Branhaven CVS, located in Branford, Connecticut. While employed as a Pharmacy Technician, Inventory Specialist, DIBENE was responsible for placing orders for medications for the pharmacy from drug wholesalers. Beginning in approximately January 2008, DIBENE knowingly removed unopened bottles of Vicodin ES from the Branhaven CVS pharmacy. DIBENE possessed the bottles of Vicodin ES with the intent to deliver them to another person. DIBENE also ingested an unknown quantity of the pills herself. From approximately January 2008 through June 4, 2008, DIBENE possessed with the intent to distribute 60 100-count bottles of Vicodin ES. Judge Covello has scheduled sentencing for September 8, 2009, at which time DIBENE faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years and a fine of up to $250,000. This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Drug Control Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah P. Karwan. | |
