BRIDGEPORT HEROIN DEALER SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that RODNEY BROWN, 34, of Remington Street, Bridgeport, was sentenced yesterday, January 4, by Chief United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to 72 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, for his participation in a Bridgeport-based narcotics trafficking ring.  On August 25, 2009, BROWN pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.

This matter stems from “Operation G-Force,” a joint law enforcement investigation into Bridgeport-area narcotics trafficking headed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force.  The year-long investigation, which led to the indictment of more than 40 individuals, included the use of court-authorized wiretaps, controlled purchases of cocaine, crack and heroin, and physical surveillance.

The investigation revealed that Malcolm White, also known as “Malc” and “X,” distributed heroin and crack cocaine out of the Marina Village housing complex in Bridgeport.  BROWN was intercepted on the wiretap on multiple occasions ordering quantities of heroin from White, which BROWN then sold to his own customers.

Three months prior to the initiation of the wiretap, BROWN was arrested by Bridgeport Police in possession of numerous bags of heroin packaged for street sale and stamped “red alert,” a brand sold by White and his associates.

White has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams of more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”).  He awaits sentencing.

This matter was investigated by members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, which is composed of federal agents and state and local officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division, the Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force, and the Bridgeport, Stamford, Stratford, Fairfield, Trumbull and Norwalk Police Departments.  This matter is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dave Vatti and Hal Chen.
