GUATEMALAN HEROIN COURIER SENTENCED TO 42 MONTHS IN PRISON

Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DENIS ALBERTO DAVILA, 35, a Guatemalan national, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Christopher F. Droney in Hartford to 42 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for conspiring to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin.  DAVILA pleaded guilty to the offense on November 17, 2009.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on March 31, 2008, DAVILA and Adolfo Alejandro Robles-Ramirez, also a Guatemalan national, were drug couriers who delivered more than two kilograms of heroin to an undercover law enforcement officer in Stamford, Connecticut.  DAVILA and Robles-Ramirez transported the heroin, which had been hidden in their shoes, from Texas.

DAVILA faces deportation to Guatemala after he completes his prison term.

On February 4, 2010, Robles-Ramirez was sentenced to 30 months of imprisonment.  He also faces deportation to Guatemala upon completion of his prison term.

This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration with the assistance of the Stamford Police Department.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Hal Chen.
