NEW LONDON MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR DISTRIBUTING CRACK COCAINE

Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DOUGLAS BICKHAM, 29, of New London, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for distributing crack cocaine.  On May 1, 2008, BICKHAM pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”).

According to court documents and statements made in court, on August 9, 2007, New London Police stopped a car that BICKHAM was driving.  BICKHAM was arrested after a search of his person revealed more than 25 grams of crack cocaine.

BICKHAM was released on bond from October 2007 to January 2010, when he was arrested by the New London police on a charge of possession of narcotics.  State charges against BICKHAM are pending.

This matter was investigated by the New London Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Connecticut State Police.

This case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant United States Attorney Anthony E. Kaplan, and Assistant State’s Attorney Paul Narducci of the New London State’s Attorney’s Office, who has been cross-designated as Special Assistant United States Attorney in this matter.
